I own a 2003 Hiace 300GLS long wheel base van. I always seem to have front tires that wear badly. The tires I have now are showing signs of wear on the inside edges. They are not very old and, apart from this, have lots of life left in them. I have done the usual thing of having my tracking checked - laser four wheel alignment etc and it has been adjusted. Of course there is no guarantee this was done properly and it is difficult to find anyone to do a long wheel base van too. I am fed up with having this done and still having unevenly worn tires. Does anyone else have experience of a similar problem?
I do recall with my previous Hiace, the old type with the engine under the seat, I went so far as to have Toyota check the tracking (very expensive) and find nothing wrong with it. It was only when I went to pick the van up the mechanic let slip that it was a known characteristic of the old Hiace for the tires to wear unevenly. Maybe this is the case with the Powervan too?

A GOOD wheel alignment should solve your problems.

I noticed my front left tyre chewing out on the outer edge - took it in for an alignment and it was miles out.

I worked out that when I was parking one day (angle parks) that I came in a little fast and that tyre hit the kerb and must have knocked the alignment out.

The guy who was doing the alignment agreed with my theory.

After it was done, it drove like a dream and no more signs of tyre wear (got two new front tyres the same day).

No vehicle should wear tyres in an uneven pattern.

If, after an alignment you still have a problem, then I suggest that your vehicle has mechanical issues such as worn linkages or a bent subframe.
