I'm so new, I'm still running on my first tank of fuel that the Dealer supplied.
The Dealer told me I would have no problem running my FJ on regular unleaded
gasoline, but noticed that the Owners Manual says to use premium unleaded.
Which is it? Any advice would be appreciated.

Check what the Octane Recommended Rating is. The manual may use words like "premium" but its the octane level thats important. For most vehicles regular gas is acceptable, which has an octane rating of 82-85.

in accordance with consumer reports, toyota recommends it, but it's not required and will run just fine. i have harley's that recommend that as well. i run regular unleaded and fill every tenth tank with 93 octance just to keep the injectors cleaned out.

Now I don't want to go against what you're saying down south, but for a fact...here in Canada...the Octane rating has no bearing on cleaning the injectors.

The fuel additives up here are the same for "most" major producers (except Petro Canada which does what you're saying. "Tactrol" is in greater concentration for the premium gas).

You can achieve better injector cleaning by buying the concentrated cleaner (Canadian Tire <--cheap) and maybe once a year throw some in.

Just a suggestion thats all.

Iwant to buy a new 07 FJ Crusier.
The dealer says I must use premium gas only regular gas will destroy the engine.
Is this true. Does anyone have a crusier and puts regular in it.

I've always run a tank of premium through every five or six tanks, and now I read that it doesn't help?
Wonder where that old adage came from. So rather than the expensive tank just put in a can of STP now and again?

Usually the ecm has a low octane tune and a high octane tune. It will be able to tell what type of fuel your runnning by monitering the knock sensors in relation to the rpms maf and oxygen sensors. Your car will be fine off regular unleaded forever. However you will probably notice better fuel economy with premium. I have never heard of premium being used as an injector clenser.

I've heard people using premium as an injector cleaning tool, but don't know if it really has any value.

If you want "optimum performance" you should run 93 octane fuel, but the FJ will run just fine on 87 or 89.
The engine has a knock sensor on it, so if you put in lower octane fuel the computer will recognize when the engine is getting detonation and will adjust the ignition timing accordingly.
Dont be afraid to run 87 octane fuel in the FJ, you wont hurt it.
