If you are interested in having a full lock and welded rear end, I can do it for fraction of the cost. There is the right and wrong way to do it and I can assure quality work.
Note: Having a full lock rearend is good in handling and traction but not recommend for daily street use unless, you are a weekend warrior. The car will have awsome traction and can eat up your tires on your daily commute.
Limited slip is different from having a full lock rearend. Limited slip gets in traction when it senses slipping or lost of traction as for the full lock, both rear wheels spins together fulltime and will eat up a few hp but traction is awsome specially in dirt or in cornering.
Anyway, send me an e-mail if interested and I am in the Los Angeles area, shipping is also possible.

Hey Labro, can you tell me a bit about limited slip in respects to my 77 and/or 76 Celica?

I have been told that if I want to do this, I will have to get the rear axel out of a slightly newer Celica (early 80's) and cut the axel to make it narrower. True or False?

To my knowlege there is not a limited slip available for my car (OK, so I guess I'm asking in respects to the 76) -- again, T or F? If there is a limited slip available for my car, where can I get it and how much it should cost?

For a lighter weight car, I have been told that a limited slip could be detrimental over the stock rear end, that it could lock up when I didn't want it going around corners. What sort of situation would I or would I actually not be looking at if I were able to install a limited slip.

Yeah, OK, I'm going to end it there, but please, any info you can shed would be much appreciated. Gotta run, I'm building my engine this weekend and I'm loosing time the longer I languish in these Toy/Celica chat clubs. Whish me luck all, I'll try to post pictures of the process and the finished product.
CelicaMon

Howdy Celicamon

Might be able to help a little, I am not certian what year but around 76 the track width grew on celica about 1.5" or 3/4" per axle, the splines are the same from 72-83 that I know of or have seen, the third member or geraset they remain the same 72-83 poss up 85, at least in ratio;s 3.41, 3.57, 3.73 thats what I have for spares from various cars I believ ethere may be others, 4,10s out of a corrolla SR5 fit as well gearsets that is. I have remounted the brackets off a early rearend to the wider axle housing (have not tried this setup yet), I would weld my rr end, but the rules say no staggering tire size and as I only turn left and basicly a flat oval welding is a no no. As far as the limited slip, if you find one and it is out of a celica the gearset should fit,
Please note the IRS cars have a different carrier so only the crown and pinion interchange, and if you do find one out of any Toy that fits let me know please. Anyone???

Ohyacool
