Hello Everyone,

Is it true that you have to put premium into the FJ. I have read elsewhere that you really don't need to and that 87 is ok. Any input is appreciated...thanks!!

I just depends on what kind of mileage you want to get. Premium will give you 1-2mpg better. Lower octane will result in lower mileage, but less $$ at the pump. Your call :)

actually using premium gas does not increase power or mileage. the only reason some vehicles require higher octane is due to higher compression ratios of the engines.regular gasoline in higher compression engines burn faster....almost to fast, which is closer to detonation. this detonation is not good. the only thing premium gasoline does is burn at a slower rate in high compression engines...thus no detonation(pinging). in no way does it give more power. your fj engine is a semi high compression engine. you can use regular gas for everyday driving. but, if your gonna stress the engine, such as towing a trailer or serious offroading you may want to use high octane gas to avoid pinging. hope this helps
