Hi,

I was wondering does the Sequoia really get the posted 14/17 mpg? Is it an inflated number or is it conservative?

After 12000 miles on my 4x2 Limited , I love the mileage. According to my computer I am getting 17.5 miles per gallon. This from a mostly mixed driving routine of city and highway. The mileage is so much better then my 2000 Tahoe that was replaced by by 2001 Sequoia. I got approximately 12 miles per gallon on the Tahoe

Oh ya, the push-rod, low tech junk the Domestic Manufactures are petaling now is HORRIBLE!! The 350's in GM trucks is the same 1955 technology!!! The OHC 4.7 in the sequia won awards for one of the best engines of ALL time!! You are also going to love the reliability of the Toyota as opposed to the Domestic you owned before!! Enjoy

We average about 13 so far. Usually get about 14.5 on the highway and 12 or so in the city. We've taken a number of trips, driven off road and then with all the city driving, we get about 13 average. It's about 35% freeway and 65% freeway with a little beach driving thrown in. Got 4500 miles on it now and had it since September last year.

I would mostly drive in city. Almost no off roading. I was curious about the highway miles, for long trips. We would mostly use it for people moving.

I hope you purchased a two wheel drive model then! A 4X2 will get better MPG. and ride and handle better also.

I've got a '97 extended cab 4x4 with the 2.7, manual trans. and I get around 23 mpg on the highway. This is with fairly new 30x9.50x15 Bridgestone Dueller Revo A/T's (aggressive, deep tread pattern). With my last set of worn Firestone Wilderness A/T's (235/75/15), I got as high as 25 mpg.

I have an '03 for sale, it has the 2.7 with the 5-speed. It tends to get 20-21 combined, if you took a trip all out freeway and kept around 70mph I'm sure you'd achieve low 20's, maybe mid-20's. My '03 has an 18.5 gallon fuel tank so it makes for a decent cruise range. I have a message posted above this one, if interested give me a jingle 541.261.6641

What is my problem if my average mpg is only 38 for mostly in town driving?

FWIW,

I picked up my car Saturday. I have found freeway driving to have good mpg (significantly over 50 according to computer anyhow).

In town has been lower, at least while I'm learning to drive the car. In town does seem to be more responsive to driving tricks, so I have been able to improve it.
