I own a 2009 Toyota Corolla XRS Sedan and just got back from a 1700 mile round trip to North Carolina from South Florida and experienced an overall 32.4 mpg and I presently have 4500 miles on this 2 month old car. City driving is between 25 to 27 mpg average. I am fixing to change the Motor Oil at 5k and install Mobil 1 - 5 W 30 Synthetic Motor Oil and it should not only maintain the current gas mileage, but because I will be using Synthetic, I know the fuel mileage will increase a litte bit more, because of less friction, opposed to the factory conventional motor oil installed all these 2.4L XRS engines from the factory.

I have a '09 'rolla Sport, 257 miles and I am driving 50/50 city/highway and I am getting 32.1 avg mpg, based on my in dash gauge and my scan gauge II. City I am avg about 27.3. I will do my first oil change @ 1000K and use 0W 20, Mobil 1 synthetic and once broken in I suspect I will be getting at least a 10% increase. I did forget to mention I put a K&N performance air filter in as well, and it feels a bit peppier...I think. I know my '07 Chevy Colorado 4 banger benefited from the K&N air filter, MPG and a bit more horses( not many tho')

Peake,
First oil change should be at 5k. Check with your owner's manual.

I've had mine for 3 months and have about 1900 miles on it. The readout gives an average mpg at 35, but every fillup I calculate it and I get 29 in the city. The one road trip I took I calced it at 40mpg.

I just got my 09 Corolla last week and I'm getting about 35 MPG. I'm trying an experiment, though...we have some stations around here that sell gas WITHOUT ethynol. In my mother-in-law's 08 Corolla, she got 46 miles per gallon all highway driving. I have a mix of highway and mountainous, so I hope to improve my mileage a bit. Will post results when I fill up again.

Went 220 Miles (50% stop&go / mountain roads) - (50% Turnpike with Cruise.) 6 gallons & 220 miles = 36.7..not to shabbie. I have 660 miles on the od......09 "LE" Auto.. I expect 40+ on a long Road trip, my 02 Corolla gave me 42 on trips.

Well, my experiment with non-EA gas was a semi-success..I got about 38 mpg vs 36mpg with std gas (10% EA). So not much difference. Still, 38 is great with my mix of highway driving to work and stop-and-go coming home.
I'm using Google spreadsheet to keep track of mileage, so I'll be anal about it for some time to come!

QUOTE (jerseyglock @ Jul 13 2008, 12:11 AM) Peake,
First oil change should be at 5k. Check with your owner's manual. JerseyGlock - I took my 'rolla in for the 1000 mile check-up and the dealer changed the break-in oil (their term), thought you may find that interesting. I got 34.7 mpg on a trip with my wife and two kids plus luggage on a 5 hour journey up and down mountainous highway. Pretty good I thought with a load and hills. regards, peake

Peake, What brand and weight of oil did dealer use? I do my own oil changes and Mobil1 5w20 or 0w20 (winter) will be the only brand I'll use.

JG-
They used a dino 5/20 They were going to charge me $25 for syn. I usually do my own changes and use syn so I will do my first change with Mobil 1 0/20 @ 5k. The 0/20 is recommended for the best fuel economy.

Peake,
Depends on the location, I will use 0w20 during winter and 5w20 for summer.

I currently drive a 2006 Solara, V6, SLE loaded w/Nav .... Just recently I accepted a deal [$500 over invoice) to trade on '09 Corolla S all options but Nav, I found out that my gas usage readout has been a complete farce (IMG: style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif) .... ie, ~2-3 mpg high. I think those of you who are reporting gas miliage are probably believing what your readout is telling you. [I did for +3years!! (IMG: style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif) ] It would be interesting to see how your readouts compare with good ole pencil and paper division with miles and gallons used. My suspicion is that any and all Toyota electronics for gas readout may differ in physical dimensions and placement but would be the same electronics. Give it a try .... I was "reading" consistently 29-31 mph on a daily commute on interstate of 110 miles .... actual pencil/paper calc gives daily average ranging from 25.5 to < 27 ... Thanks, Radman

RadmanGTO, Just want to let you know the way I calculate my MPG, everytime I filled up and I reset my trip mileage back to 0. I compare my total trip mileage versus how much gas it took to filled. I normally requested extra 1/2 gallon or nearest full amount. Then I compare to readout, its about 1 mpg off.

that is the only way that check my mpg. I don't trust the electronic read out. It says I'm averaging 34-35 but calcing it I'm getting 29-30 for all city driving. Higway around 40mpg like i had mentioned in my previous post.

Just for the record, my mileage I've been getting has been calculated manually (# miles driven / # of gallons purchased during fill). I find the electronic tracking is about 1 mpg lower. It's a good barometer (the electronic mpg thingy), but for true calculations, one should track it with paper and pencil...or, in my case...via Google spreadsheet.
I'm averaging about 37MPG (mostly highway) with 87 octane. Took a 500 mile trip last week and got 43 MPG WITH a mountain pass!
