Jack the rear-end and place on jackstands. It should be a couple of straps...but make sure the tank is as empty as possible. Each gallon of gas remaining is 10lbs so it'll be heavy.
Place a jack with a board (to distribute the load) under the tank....apply lift-pressure.....undo the straps..and slowly lower.
It's pretty easy....just patience and time consuming. I would really recommend you buy a Haynes Manual from Canadian Tire. It will walk you through the whole process.

If you have the time and patience to do it yourself, all the power to you because it can be a lengthy and frustrating process. You may be better off taking it to a garage!

From my 1988 MR2 Handbook (page 2) The tank capacity is listed as 41 litres, or 9.0 imperal gallons. As far as I know, the fuel tank design and capacity remained unchanged throughout the life of the AW11 MR2. Hope this would help. ____________________________ tips: always check the distributor cap
