I put a deposit on a 2001 GS300 yesterday but am concerned about two potential problems I just read about: Wind noise (Is this car quiet?) and vibration at high speeds (Has this problem been corrected by Lexus?). I have a three week wait as the car is on order so I want to be sure this is the car to buy. Thanks for any and all input.

Ron:

Being a GS300 owner for some four weeks now, I can confirm that the 6-cyl engine is louder than an 8-cyl engine. (I'd a BMW 8-cyl previously) but I cannot confirm vibrations at high speeds: Since approx. 4 days, I drive (legally!!) up to 246kms/hr, which is the GS3's max. speed: no problems at all! The Lex gives you a very solid feeling even at very high speed but again, I agree that the engine is too loud. It's NOT the wind noise!

However, if you still have an option to change, than upgrade to the GS430 - the 300 is not bad but it seems that only the 8-cyl will give you the "real thing"

Regards, Dirk

Hi,

Sometimes at above 80km/hr there is wind noise. It is not continuous but seems to relate to wind speed and direction. On a fine day the wind noise is not noticeable, especially when you are enjoying the music.

There is no vibration problem up to 110km/hr. I have yet to test at higher speed.

NB:It is a 97 no turbo Aristo (Japanese's verion of GS300).

Hi all members,

I'm new in here. I owned a GS300 2000 model, its been three months and the car is running perfect, except I brought it in service twice to fix the rattle sound and the wind noise come from the driver side window only. The noise only come from the driver side and the passenger side is totally quiet. The dealer replaced a new weather strip, but still happened. Any suggestion or any person who have the same problem?

Hi there,

I hear the wind noise come from the left side corner of the window. Usually the noise start at above 40 to 50 mph, I brought back to the dealer yesterday and they recognized the noise and promised to fix it by a lead technician. I just cross my finger and waiting.

Thanks for the reply. Please let me know if the dealer fixes your problem. What year
GS do you have? My 2001 is due to arrive on 11/19. Thanks again.
