Hello

I am after some advice, although no doubt subjective, it may help me make a decison.

I currently own a landcruiser 80 series diesel wagon with 140,000 KM on the clock. I bought it new in 1996 and have looked after the vehicle. In 2005 the vehicle was hit by a car driven by a drunk driver which caused the frame to be bent. The frame was subsequently straughtened twice, however, front tyre wear may indicate it is still a problem despite being within Toyota specifications. I have drive 30,000 Km since the accident and now note that the gears are becomming difficult to pull through the gate without jiggling and reving the engine slightly (not all the time - just now and again).

I cannot obtain non subjective advice regarding whether the gearbox may have been damaged in the accident.

I really like this vehicle and it has been a solid performer for me. If I had NOT had the accident, I would be keeping this landcruiser. BUT, because of the bent frame and now ???? gearbox issues, I am debating trading in on the new 70 series wagon, however, have concerns that the new engine may not be as reliable or as good as the old 4.2 naturally aspirated engine I currently have.

I'd like to hear other peoples view on my prospective decision to "maybe" trade to a 70 series wagon.

Thank you.........IAIN

Hi im a geat fan of the 80series and i think its arguably one of the best suv's built to date.I own a 96 landcruiser II station wagon, the coil sprung version and its great.

Its what the new 70 series is based on and is almost a carbon copy apart from the front fenders and hood,The v8 diesel would be great for sure. The downside is with a leaf spring set up in the rear it would not ride as well as your 80 series.I still dont understand why toyota went back to leaf's for the new 70 series.

So if its the engine you are concerned about,,,dont be.
