'83 Celica GTS; headlights won't lift or drop (but they will retract if if I remove and reinstall the battery ground) I did a search for this problem in the OCC archives and found two threads which were very helpful. Here's where I am: I found the "Retractor Relay" (p/n 85964-14020) by the radiator and popped the cover off. The points look and act OK - anybody know how the thing is wired, so I can check it out from the connector end with a meter? At the kick panel I found the "Lamp Control" (p/n 85985-22021). This is the green plastic jobbie with a printed circuit inside. It only has 4 connectors, whereas Haynes shows 6 for a Retract Control Relay. It looked real nice (LOL - I have no idea if it's good or bad). Where do I go from here? I haven't found a good junkyard nearby, so it's not like I can just run down, pull some parts, and start swapping. I will probably have to pay for new stuff once I identify the culprit. Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes the retract relay is on the upper core support between the pass headlamp and the radiator. The retract control relay is under the dash drivers side. it should be clipped to a bracket on the left side or right of the strg shaft housing. it is usually black and rectange in shape about 1.5"" X 3.5". When you hook up the batt do the lights go up right then? smack the retract relay and see. or do you have to turn on the light switch? has the car been wrecked in the front before? check the harness by the retract relay. Do the lights go out when you turn off the switch? could be the switch too. Boostmaster
