nice to be here. I hope maybe some of you can help me figure out some problems with my 1991 4x4 pickup 22re. I was wondering if there is a way to test your distributor, or do you just try to replace it? Also, can you pick up a distributor that is not toyota factory and have it work fine? thanks for the help

yeah get an distributor from any parts store. buying an original from a toyota dealer is way too expensive. and still will work fine

They sale a haynes repair manual that will walk you through testing you parts instead of spending alot of money on new parts you realy dont need

the factory service manual calls the sensor in the distributor a signal generator. most would call it a pick up coil. if you would like to test it you will need an ohm meter. set the meter at 2k and place your red lead to the black wire and your black lead to the white wire. with the engine cold it should read between 185 and 2750 if you can get it warm and check it then it should read between 240 and 325. if you have a feeler guage then check the gap between the distributor shaft and the sensor tip. it should be 0.2 to 0.4mm
(0.008 to 0.015in). this can be adjusted a little if the gap is out of spec
