I have a 94 Toyota Pick Up with a 22RE. I rebuilt the negine and everything was working fine. The truck ran perfect and racked right up until a week later when the starter just clicked. I replaced the starter and it did the same thing, I checked the neutral safety switch and it seems to be working. I fanyone has had this problem before would you give me a hand please. Thank you.

It sounds like you know what you're doing. So, no offense - have you had the battery tested? If the battery is in good shape, you may have bought a defective starter. If it's like the starter on my 22R (I'd imagine they're the same), the solenoid is integrated into the starter. If that solenoid in your new starter is defective, that's your problem. It's kind of like a distributor cap and rotor. There are points, so to speak, inside that starter solenoid. If some of those points are shot then it will just click 90% of the time when you try to start it. But, every so often it will fire up when it's found a good point to fire off of. Try to start it repeatedly, giving it a second or two between each attempt. See what happens and let me know. Best of luck.

If you didn't buy the starter from Toyota but from a parts house,....it is more than likely made in China. Nothing to wrong with them 'cause they are usually 50% cheaper. You'll have to smack the side of the starter a few times with a hammer or something as it sounds like the brushes are sticking,....it will eventially begin working properly. Just takes a while. Good luck.
