Hello Everyone,
I've just joined, seems like a great site. I'm based in the UK with a Toyota Hiace campervan import. I'm not sure the year, probably 1991. I've been trying to track down the VIN number. I can't find it in the drivers door area or in the engine bay compartment. Does anyone know where I could find it?
Much appreciated!
Ben

Hi!

On based your Hiace year, I'd say it's under plastic cover in either door opening over the front tyre. Just open door and check about 15cm cover to open with screwdriver.
The cover is situated in the plastic ridge that is between cabin carpet and door.
In Lhd it's passengers side so maybe you got in driver's side.

Hi there,

That's great advice, thank you. I'd never in a million years have found that little cover! But I'm still not sure if I've found the VIN...

Underneath the cover, stamped into the bodywork of the car, is a number which matches one I found on the engine plate - LH113-0073209. However, I'd been looking for a 17 digit number, as I thought all VINs were 17 digits. Is this number I've found the VIN... and if so, does anyone know how to read it?

Thanks very much,

Ben

Not sure what you need from the VIN - Toyota stamp it there and I'd figure they stamp what was required in 1991 - if it's needed for registration purposes just give them that number....if they query it take a digital photo of it to show them. In Australia it is also on the left hand side of the cabin where the passengers left ankle would be.

Great, thanks very much for that. I just checked but couldn't find anything by the left hand passenger foot. But thanks for the advice, I guess the chassis number on its own will do the job.
