Hi all. I have a '95 Tercel, manual transmission. It's been running great with no problems at all. Not even intermittent ones. This morning I go to start her up and nothing. No clicking, no turning, no nothing. However, all electrical components are working nice and strong. No dims lights, etc. I was able to push start it, and it ran just fine. That is, until I shut it off, and then nothing again. Any thoughts? I've been told the starter is the most likely culprit. But, could it also be the clutch pedal switch? Is there a for sure way of telling?
Thanks for any help!

if you think it is the neutral safety switch (clutch pedal) is bad then look near the firewall inside the car. there is a plate that sticks off the clutch pedal and typically there is a plastic pop in piece that engages the switch. check to make sure that is there. if it is then press the button with your finger and try to start the car. if nothing happens then is could be anything from an ignition problem to the starter. but also try this take a small hammer and gently tap on the starter. not to lightly and not to heavy. then try to start it. if it does then its the starter.

I was able to push start it again this morning and took it to the dealer. The mechanic said my solenoid is starting to go bad. He said once the car is started and it warms up that it'll start with no problems, but once it's cold after sitting overnight it will probably happen again. And that's exactly what's happening. It started right up every time at the dealership. He put it up on the lift and looked at it. He said it still has the original 1995 starter on it. I guess it's about to change it!

Its not very often that you have to change the starter. 90% of the time it is just the contacts in the solenoid. You can get the contacts from the dealer for about $15 each or from somewhere that repairs starters for $3 or$4 each.
