hi everyone, i have a 94 hiace 2.5 petrol. after driving for about 5 mins a light on my dash appears and doesnt go away until i turn the car off. its an orange light in the shape of the oil one but without the drip coming out but it has a wavy line under it that appears to look like water.

i thought it might have been oil pressure but i did an oil and oil filter change today and as soon as i drove home it came back on. i know i did the oil change correct because i had a mechanic with me. the red "low oil" light doesnt light up - just the orange one. and i dont think its the radiator because i know from bad experience what that one is. :oS

your help would be appreciated.

ta, wil-

It'd be more helpful if you could snap a pic of the light in question and post it up here.

The warning light you described fits for the low oil level signal.

There is a sensor attached to the "oilbottom" (I don't know right term) of the engine. It should light up when oil level is low (my van does that). So check if there is enough oil with oil stick. If oil level is in safe area then there is perhaps somekind of problem with the sensor.

And something more: The red oil light means that oil pressure is low and thats more acute situation. Oil pressure can drop without lack of oil if pump fails etc.

Long time driving with low oil level doesn't let time for the oil to cool down and may let it loose its capabilities and causing engine failure. The oil pressure singal light can't give alone this vital information. Oil pressure drops in above situation when it's too late.
