Sorry you couldn't make the meet. I should have shown this email to some of the guys when they were here, they'd know.

Something like that is REALLY hard to diagnose without seeing the car. It's possible that the blow-off-valve/air-bypass-valve is sticking open and always allowing pressure to escape. If you can drive it, I can take a look at it sometime. I am in Brentioch .. Old Hickory Blvd and Nolensville Rd. Write me back and I can give you directions and set up a day. -David

Sounds more like the oil seals in the turbo are fried. Those are the exact symptoms of a blown turbo. A bad head gasket on the turbo 2's almost always results in exhaust making it's way into the coolant and boiling all your coolant out of the system and overheating the engine. It's very rare to lose oil due to a bad head gasket on these cars. Sounds like someone didn't rebuild the turbo right ... Take it back. -David

If the oil is leaking on the compressor side of the turbo, you'd have oil all over the intake tubes. Take one off and look at it. Oil could also be going out the exhaust side. Were you burning that much oil before the turbo swap? Tell us where you had the turbo rebuilt. Might have a crappy job done on the turbo.

This is the first message I've gotten in about 3 months! I've been quietly working on a couple of MR2's. I finished Kevin Grant's rebuild a couple of months ago. I just got done replacing the turbo in my old MR2 ... the seals finally gave up the ghost. It's good to know my old baby is still alive and kicking. I forgot how much fun it was to drive .. even only running on 7psi. And now Doug and I are about to start building up his "new" MR2 into a BEAST. Should be at least as strong if not a bit more than mine before I blew the engine to hell and back. I also still have the '88 Celica AllTrac to get back together and build it up strong. AND, I still have this "new" 225hp German KrautenRocket to play with. Yes .. I have plans for it. I have a turbo timer to install VERY soon and already have a K&N drop in filter. So, I may be able to spend a couple of hours helping you diagnose your overboost problem. If it's what I suspect ... you will have to spend about $800 on keeping it emissions legal, or about 2 hours to give the finger to the EPA and gut your main cat .. could be clogged/fried. Later, David

Yo, all the MR2's I've known can pass Nashville/Murfreesboro Emissions with no cats - save your money and enjoy the power gain. Randy, you will need to buy the gaskets and get new bolts and stuff from Toyota cause they are gonna break off and the gaskets are gonna be bad so you don't want to reuse them. It's really easy to do as long as the bolts come off without breaking or stripping. David, I'll be ready to work on my 2 next weekend :-).

Oh yeah, I finally bought a truck. I have to say, I love it for the daily grind. Plenty of room and I can jump over curbs. I just got back from Gulf Shores with my fiance and we loved the truck for the trip. It's a 2000 Ford Ranger Supercab with the flareside bed. I can't burn corners in it, but it's great for everyday life. Now I can hold anything she buys!! Dale

Good choice, Dale. Carol and I absolutely love our Ranger. Which engine do you have? Our truck is at my sister's house right now. You may have a few people asking you to haul stuff now too...all part of being a truck owner. Enjoy your new ride! Now that the weather is getting nice, we need to have a TRIMOC reunion. I would really like to see everybody. A nice MR2 cruise would be fun also. Maybe Nachez Trace? You could ride with me if you like, Dale. Hope to see everyone soon, Ray

Well in response to all the "other then an MR2, what do you drive?" question..... Most of you have seen the great white whale that is my 88 Aerostar cargo van. I can haul stuff and when I get where I'm going I can just leave the stuff in it cause it's all locked up. It gets 20 mpg on the freeway too. I've also recently added a '92 Maxima SE with 16" wheels, 5 spd and LSD to the mix. This is what I'm driving mostly now days. 26 mpg, holds 4 comfortably, lots of luggage space, handles fairly well and has some spunk. I still have the SC and enjoy driving it. But it's seductive throttle pedal always calls out to me to play. So the Maxima is now my daily driver..... >

Ray I've got the little engine. I drive my truck a bunch on the highway. I've just got the 2.5L 4. It gets like 29mpg and does fine for what I need it do. My Dad's 3.0l V6 in his 01 doesn't really run that much better than the 2.5L. It also does not get the mpg mine does. All in all it was the best choice. Dale
