Ok I got my '79 FJ40 around a month ago, and I have been having too much fun. Half the wiring harness was melted, so I rewired the whole thing bumper to bumper. I also replaced spark plugs, wires, dist cap, oil, tranny & tcase oil. So when I get it all together it all works EXCEPT now it doesn't want to start. If I do get it going, I have to floor it with the choke open. Black smoke pours from the tailpipe (smells like gas) & backfires horribly. I have good spark. I had gas running down the side of the block, so I pulled the carb off and replaced the gaskets btwn the carb & intake manifold. I tried adjust the mixture but it does not seem to help (it is set three turns out from all the way in). I must have done something wrong... any ideas? Feeling pretty stupid....Thanks in advance

What you have to remember is that if there is any difference between what your car is insured as and what it actually is, then in the event of a claim an insurance company will use that to worm out of paying out, your best bet is to either find an insurance company that knows exactly what it is or is prepared to give you, in writing, something that confirms that they are aware they are providing insurance on your car specifically and that it isn't as listed on their database..

l'm insured with Norwich Union who will insure the car an an import, however, they wouldn't insure me when l rang them up directly bit will insure me when l go through a broker. l used Auto Direct who advertise in the Auto Trader. My celica has Cat 1 Alarm / imobiliser and a tracker fitted but it only saved ?20.00 on the insurance through Norwich Union. My insurance is just under ?700.00 and l think reasonable for what the car is.
