Ok I got my '79 FJ40 around a month ago, and I have been having too
much fun. Half the wiring harness was melted, so I rewired the whole
thing bumper to bumper. I also replaced spark plugs, wires, dist cap,
oil, tranny & tcase oil. So when I get it all together it all works
EXCEPT now it doesn't want to start. If I do get it going, I have to
floor it with the choke open. Black smoke pours from the tailpipe
(smells like gas) & backfires horribly. I have good spark. I had gas
running down the side of the block, so I pulled the carb off and
replaced the gaskets btwn the carb & intake manifold. I tried adjust
the mixture but it does not seem to help (it is set three turns out
from all the way in). I must have done something wrong... any ideas?
Feeling pretty stupid....Thanks in advance
