I own a 2002 Rav 4 - recently it has been misfiring now and again and the engine malfunction light keeps coming on then going off.

I have taken it to a dealer this morning and have been told that a Valve needs replacing - at a cost of £800??

This seems very expensive! Has anyone else had this problem? if so how much does it really cost??!!

You are concerned about costs and the car is 7 years old so from those statements I assume all warranties are expired; basic and extended. It sounds to me like you need a second opinion else why would you be online asking around? Right? So why not just get out there and get a second opinion? It doesn't have to be a Toyota dealer if it's off warranty. Ask your friends if they know a competant, reasonably priced mechanic and get his opinion.
