Hello All,
I've just imported a 1994 Hiace 2.8D Camper from japan. Its at Liverpool Docks as I write this. I have a couple or three questions that I'm hoping the nice people on here can help me with?

The chassis No starts LH113 and I could do with a good parts supplier for this vehicle eg Service parts, cam belt etc. Insurance companies for jap import campers? i know it has 110v hook up, whats involved in getting this uprated or is it better to rewire it completely for 240v mains? Any help much appreciated - Thanks - Jim

firstly if you take your chassis No to your Toyota dealer they will be able to supply all service parts required

secondly you need to change your external hook up plug to the European spec...(blue 3pin)

next the unit in the van that charges your leisure battery whilst on hook up will be 110v/12v this will have to be changed to a 240/12v.....I recently fitted one of these leisure charger

for insurance I use..... insurance

I would also consider having it waxoiled or the salt on our roads will eat it come winter...

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/liebe011.gif) cheers for the info. I have bought a ctek XS7000 charger in readyness for when I get my hands on it. The waxoyl thing is a definate and I have already booked it in for that. I'm chuffed about the parts thing as I was worried I might struggle to find parts for it. Now I need to start shopping around for insurance for it. I'll try the link you suggest. Thanks Again!!

As an electrician I recommend you have the van rewired / reconfigured to work with your local mains voltage (240V).

As the poster above suggested, you will certainly need to get the charger replaced with one that is compatible.

.

I'd go with that.... every thing from the blue external pin in...up to the leisure charger and including the fuse box and the vans outlet socket/sockets... which you'll obviously need to change from the small rectangular Japanese type to the UK 3pin domestic type... Thanks for the replies!

HIACE 4x4, can i ask you another question with you being a sparkie? I intent to put a sterling battery to battery unit on this camper to charge the leisure battery while on the move. Is it feasible / safe / ok to have the ctek charger permanently connected to the leisure battery when on site hookup and engine off? Do you know if it will it cause any problems having a setup like this? Cheers!

does your camper not have a leisure battery fitted as standard.....and if it does why do you want to replace what is there ..... ?

would you not be better fitting an intelligent split charge relay ...though I would imagine this is what it would have as standard...?

It does have a small 85ah battery but I have access to a 220ah almost free to me that I assume will be better... don't they say "size matters" ahem!!! To be totally honest I won't get to really investigate what is on this camper until it arrives at my house after registration etc. Then i will go through it with a fine tooth comb. I'm hoping it's already got some type of split charge setup already but I def want to change to the ctek charger. I will probably get an it completely rewired to be honest , just to be on safe side.Attached File  b.jpg ( 71.32K ) Number of downloads: 13

looks like a nice clean van.... another thing to be aware of is, a lot of the campers come in with this strange little twin gas cylinder cradle type thing.... although the cylinders look identical to UK spec ones... they are not and cannot be purchased here .... this will require changing as well.... which if like my van, with limited space can prove problematic....

Most chargers incorporate reverse drain protection in them, so that they can be permanently attached to a battery regardless of the presence of mains power or not.
Check with the supplier of the charger, and if in doubt, put a diode rated at 10 amps in series with the positive line from the charger.

I bought it through a guy called Paul Bowden of Japautoagents.co.uk. He was very helpful all the way through. I'm just waiting for my C & E 386 form now so I can register it. MOT done, fog lamp on , wasoyled. it is very clean and tidy van!! very happy.... if only the customs would get their finger out!!!

Yes he advertises his stock all over including ebay. It's just gone sailing thru its first MOT which is great. Got my C&E 386 and it's being registered as I write this so I will be collecting it some time next week. Can't wait to get my hands on it. MOH has already earmarked a trip to France next year ha ha! Next big thing is to get the electrics sorted.
