Hi there - my wife an I live in Canada are considering purchasing an imported Hiace Camper with pop top. The only ones we have seen have only lap belts in the 2nd and 3rd row seats. This is acceptable (legally) for younger children if there are no alternatives in the vehicle, but this is not good enough for me. I would rather put my daughter (who is 4 yeasr old) in a car seat built for larger kids. However, in order to do this, I need to install a tether anchor (for carseats) somewhere in the vehicle.

Anyone ever heard of how people have dealt with similar situations in simialr vehicles? There will be no magic 'Hiace Tether Kit" available at my local Toyota dealer, and since the vehicle is JDM, there will likely not even be a pre-drilled hole or specific location intended for this. I have heard of 'generic tether kits' available at CanTire, but was wondering who might install.

Here's a thought:

If the Hiace you get has the second row seats that turn around, the kids would likely be safer with a lap belt in those in a head-on than they would facing the other way with three-point belts, assuming nothing would be flying at them from the back of the van. admittedly that is a big assumption in a camper.
