i too had this annoying problem and couldn't find a straight answer from any where about where it is located or how to disconnect it. so i am replying to this question so that people out there looking for it can stop the chiming.
i have a 89 hiace and i was pulling it apart to convert to campervan. after pulling the dashboard apart to install stereo i put everything back together and somehow reconnected the chime that someone had disconnected in the past. so once again the dashboard came apart (after searching online for quite a while to find where this little chime is-with no luck) i found it bolted to the underside of dashboard crossmember. more specifically i found it just to the drivers side of the stereo center console. up under the dashboard. it was held on by a 10mm bolt that also had a philips head on it. i found it was to tight to undo with my long philips screwdriver but i did manage to get a spanner on it by taking the instrument cluster out and going in from there. in hindsight i could have used a socket with a long extension to get it. but also even easier would have been to just disconnect the cable! ha. the tricky thing about disconnecting the cable is that it is on the area where all the fuses and flashers and electrical stuff is so i didnt want to disconnect the wrong thing. if you are looking for the cable it is a two core cable with a connector on it. there arent many (if any) two core connectors just floating around that area with the exception of the cigarette lighter-or maybe that is three core im not sure.
well i hope this helps anyone in search of stopping the annoying chime.
