Hi, I recently bought a 1988 toyota hiace 2.4 diesel. I've noticed that when driving at 100km/hr in 5th gear the engine is doing 3100rpm. This just seemed a little bit high to me for a diesel. I was wondering if anyone has one the same or similar and what theirs sits on at 100. When I replaced the rear brake pads I found that the diff was actually from a hilux, maybe the diff ratio is different ?

Mine does about 105 at 3000, and used to do 100 at that RPM, until I put on the right sized tires. What you are describing is not unusual.
