hi folks,

who knows why my timing belt warning light has come on at 118,000 miles.
I've just had a new belt fitted 117,500 and the last on was at 90,000.
it's a 97 hiace powervan 2.4 . luvly vehicle, I can'gt stop praising it, yet now i'm scared to drive it.
i was intersested to read wheelieking's advice on resetting the dash light. nice one buddy, I also like the odd wheelie. should I just reset it?

If you just had a new belt fitted and now the light's going off, it sounds like that new belt didn't quite get put in properly. I would take it back to the place you had it put in and have them check it. Then, if it checks out and the light is still on, just reset it.

Hello everybody. First let me say hello. I'm new to this forum. Regarding the timing belt light. I have just had my timing belt replaced on my 1994 Hiace 2.8 automatic, when the light came on (it should do this at about 60,000 miles - 100, 000 kilometers in my case according to my garage). I don't know about your van but it may be that you had the belt changed before Mr T(oyota) thought it necessary. On my Hiace, replacing the belt does not automatically reset the light. You have to remove the dash and manually reset the circuit. I would guess that the reason this light has come on at this time for you is that the circuit does not know the belt has been changed and is lighting up the lamp when the system tells it to!

My garage changed the belt but had a fit of the heebies at the idea of removing the dash and gave up at this point. They gave me the information and left it up to me. At some point soon I'll figure out how to remove the dash and do the job. Obviously I'll have to do this fairly quickly so as to keep the right mileage (or kilometerage in my case). I don't think it is all that big a deal to get the dash off - you appear to have to do that for a lot of things on a Hiace. I'd love to know exactly how though.
