I live in Buffalo, and I love having 4WD when we get a foot of snow and the plows haven't been out. How's the Highlander Hybrid's power? Will it be able to handle traditional 4WD-type driving?

I have a friend here in NW Connecticut who says hers is good in snow. She always had Subarus prior to the
Highlander, and says she thinks they were actually better but for a larger car, it does great.

You should check out the Chevy Tahoe hybrid if you are really interested in 4X4 power from your hybrid. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/57.gif)

Please do not let this topic get into a debate between Chevy and Toyota. There are subforums for that purpose. Feel free to use the forum "Other Cars" to debate Chevy.

Yes, this is my question.. How well does it get on gas mileage? With gas as expensive as it is, even if I can afford the vehicle, I need to know can I afford the gas!?

Well i don't even consider it to be a 4x4 system at all because you barely have any power to the rear wheels because it's not a connected drive train. A real 4x4 system can take full power advantage of the system. The Highlander can't. Off road for me is off road, you have to have a real 4x4.

I live here in Connecticut. During the frigid, stormy winter days we had over the last few months, my ’09 THH averaged about 23-25 MPG. However, this past weekend with the temps reaching 70 on Saturday, my THH averaged 27.3MPG during a trip to NY (150 miles total). I’m hoping to reach 28-32 during the nice summer months.
