Hello, I own the Celica ST183 4ws Gen 5. I,ve got a code 32 coming up on my 4ws light. I have had a look at the 4ws files and checked the resistance between the 4ws sensor termnal Vk, Vc & VE and found that the resistances are not correct. The thing is having read the 4ws files many time i can not see how the 4ws sensor centering is done. Do i have to loosen the holding bolts on the actual sensor and rotate the sensor on the rear rack? What is the function of the SST bolt that is featured in the 4ws files. Basically can some one please please please give me a brief step by step guide on how to center the steering sensor resistances. I will return in kind by posting photos etc of all components. regards GTI_DRIVER368

Hi Gti, The sensor is held by two #10 bolts in oblong slots. Loosening these two bolts and rotate the sensor. You should see changes in the resistances on both sides. The sensor is just a variable resistor (some call it potentiometer). Sometimes the wiper looses contact with the resistance wire. You can remove the whole sensor and inspect for any dirt or grease on the wiper. If you are lucky cleaning the wiper might save you cost of buying a new one. I would also like to know what the SST bolts is for. If I'm not mistaken SST stands for Special Tool???? Regards, Rob

Hello Robert and thanks for your reply. I found the Japaneses mechanic's manual about the 4ws. On the front page the SST bolt is listed as a tool. Looking again at the pictures it looks like it is used to center the steering sensor. I am going to make one tonight and try it out. Oh by the way do you know where the 'steering control relay' is? It is the term used to describe one of the components that might be malfunctioning when there is a fault code 32. Regards GTI DRIVER
