It seems Citroen now has a hybrid, the Xsara, that can selectively operate in ZEV mode for a reasonable distance. IT CAN BE DONE!

That would be great for those short trips around town that barely warms up the engine.

It even looks pretty good, not the old flat iron. Check out the website.

http://web.ukonline.co.uk/Members/jr.marsh/xsaranewlook2.html
\
Ken

In a quick search of the site and a some other searches, I can't tell if this is in production yet.

Is this perhaps just the Toyota Prius hybrid system (with slight modification)? Looks very similar in the specs. Even the diagrams look very similar to Prius diagrams.

So, would this vehicle qualify for the California carpool lane if you promised to run all electric when using the HOV?

If the Citroen vehicle is available -- which apparently it is not -- it would probably not qualify to drive as a single-occupancy vehicle in CA's carpool lanes because the Citroen (like the Prius) derives its electrical energy from BAD, BAD, NAUGHTY _gasoline_, according to the CA Air Resources Board, as previously noted here in message #4615 and elsewhere.

- Peter
(P.S.: Let the CARB and your CA elected officials know how you feel about CA's [silly?] carpool lane restrictions.)

It would be nice to drive in the Carpool lanes, but, do you really want to put those large decals on your beautiful Prius's fenders and rear bumper? I would'nt. And peeling them off would certainly trash the paint.

They should make them smaller and allow them to be put on the rear side and back window.

Ken
