Hello everyone,
New to this forum, and new to my 1987 tercel,
It needs some work, and I was hoping to find out some things about how some of it works-
I owened a FJ40 many years ago, and have to say it was one of the toughest vehicles I ever had, but she rotted out on me and had to let it go..

Anyways..
I was Given a 1987 Toyota Tercel 3dr hatchback free- they say it need a clutch- I started it up and placed the shift into first and let out the clutch it rolled backward, 2nd, 3rd, 4th...nothing just idled there.
I had it towed up the street to get it fixed and within 2 days got it back it shifts now, But,I have to push the pedal really close to the floor in order for it to engage.- I started looking around the motor and noticed certain bolts were not scraped from wrenches- specifically the bell housing bolts, and that other things were not touched as well ...
This clutch is Hydraulic, and I know once a hydraulic clutch is gone, there is no adjustment to it-its time to replace it.
Is there some way to get more life out of a hydraulic clutch? or get it to shift? anyone good with toyota clutches out there?????
Help would sure be appreciated !

If the slave cylinder on the bell housing has air in it or is not working properly, it can cause your originall problem of no clutch.
The other thing you can do is check your clutch pedal free play.
If you have to much free play, then the pedal will hardly have enough travel to disengage the clutch.

When you said you had to push the pedal close to the floor to engage it, did you mean disengage it ??

You can email me at trypolar@hotmail.com if you have any further questions on your clutch

I believe that your bellhousing is causing the problem. Check if there is air in it or if its working properly.
