I have a 1989 Cressida that me and my dad have worked on it's in my backyard and soon to get it registered and roadworthy. We were charging the battery so the bonet was open, and the engine was running my dad told my brother to drop the bonnet because it started to rain, but to leave the charger hooked in.. so it wasn't completely shut, so he dropped the bonnet and turned the car off and used the central locking to lock the car.

Now i can't get the car open (IMG:style_emoticons/default/s10.gif) the alarm system is on lock down mode or something...

any help will be appreciated... thanks guys.

Even though the central locking no longer works, the old physical key should still work.
Never, never, never remove all physical key locks - flat batteries will make your life a misery.

Open the drivers door with the physical (the alarm may start).
Pop the bonnet.
Reconnnect the charger.
Disabled the alarm.
Rub ears and wait for the ringing to stop. :)

In case you foolishly disconnnected all of the physical keys...
Crawl under the car (easier if you jack it up and put it on stands).
Connect the red charger cable to the big red wire on the starter motor (take a lot of care that it does not touch anything else or it will short out).
Connect the black charger cable to chassis or body metal.
Try the central locking again.

Why were you using the charger and also running the engine?
If the engine is running then it shoudl also be charging the battery.
The only reason it won't charge the battery is if you have a fault in the charging circuit (bad altternator, regulator, etc).

I'm no expert on immobilisers but I understand there are 2 forms of reset.
One is when the remote doesn't work and you have to use another way to stop the alarm.
The types I have seen are
1. a small fob that connects to a plug somewhere on the on the dash
2. a key that goes into a key swicth on the alarm (very old type of alarm)
3. a code that has to be entered by pressing some button (possibly an existing button like the hazard lights switch, eg if code is 5 2 3 then press switch 5 times quickly, wait 1 second, press 2 times, wait, press 3 times.
But if your remote is working then you should not need this.

The other type of reset is to give it a new code (and also the remotes).
I can't see why it would need this becuase that don't lose their old code easily (needs special equipment).

Of course this all assumes that you have power again and that the remotes are working.
