Hi, I just joined this site and it looks extremely helpful. I just bought a 93 pickup 4x4 with the 4 cylinder engine in it. So far I really like it. The check engine light is on though and sometimes its not wanting to idle and sounds like its going to stall but other than that it runs perfect. How do you check codes and does it sound like a sensor issue? Thnx.

The codes can be checked by jumping two pins on the diag block next to the fuse block under the hood. You then look up the check engine light blinking patteren in the service manual and it will tell you what to check and how to check it.

In short, stop by a Toyota dealer and order both the engine and body service manual. They are quite thick and very worth it.

I finally figured out the problem. Turned out the outside of the throttle body has some mud on it and the guy I bought it from adjusted that screw on the throttle body to lower the idle because it was at 2K rpms since it wouldnt return completely from the mud. I washed it down when i got it causing it to return completely and wouldnt idle so i put the screw back where it should be and took off the negative battery cable and reset the ecm and now everything runs perfectly fine. Now just need to figure out why the oil pressure guage and the temp guage arent working.
