Hi,

Just near the steering wheel on my 2003 hiace dashboard is a switch that is labelled 'idle'. I take it is used to raise the idle if the engine is choking, it is spring loaded so does not stay down, but when I have pressed it doesn't seem to do anything! does anyone know what it's for?

I've though it's function is just to help heat up engine more quickly if it's cold. Pressing the button has effect only if the engine coolant tempereature is below normal and you let engine idle. When starting to drive the idle up disengages.

Thanks, so I take it only to use it when engine is really struggling on cold mornings then!

That switch should activate a solenoid on the injector pump to raise the idle.

If it doesn't do anything, then there's something wrong.

Older vans have a manual knob you can turn to incrementally raise the idle.

Hi Brendan 78

New to this so bear with me the idle button is also on my 2007 hiace and it only works when it is first started
and only runs till the engine is up to temperature then goes off on its own.It is not needed and will not work for the rest of the day
until the van lies up over night and gets cold enough
