Once I had to travel for long hours in the States, and it was perfect to have the RAV4, because with just flipping the backseat I had a great space to sleep pretty comfortable for a while, since it was not really worth to get in a hotel. It was just to have a rest. But when I was driving from Berlin to North Cape (the most northern point in Europe) I had rented a Renault Scenic, which was pretty comfortable, but I couldn't get the back seats flat to make a bed from the back. So I ended up sleeping on the co-pilot seat, laid back all the way. In there I had no other option, because there was no hotel in the area. Many people that were there had campers and motor homes. At that moment I wished so much I had the RAV4!!!! Have you ever slept in the car? How was it? Which car?

Before we had kids, we slept in our 4Runner with the dog.

Pretty comfortable ! The rear seats fold forward to create an 8' bed. The dog slept on the front seat.

There were only 2 negative experiences:

1. When we were traveling into the US from Canada we slept in a rest area in Waterton National Park (in Montana). Early (really early) in the morning the park ranger came and knocked on our window and demanded that we leave. You are not allowed to sleep in your vehicle. I told him that all the campgrounds were full and we had to sleep. I think he knew this, and that's why he didn't make us move in the middle of the night....rather at dawn.

2. When we travelled across Canada from Ontario to B.C. (3 day trip....16 hrs per day---> it's a big country in case you didn't know), we slept in the 4Runner in a farmer's wheat field. It was so hot we had to open a window. There were so many mosquito's that it made sleeping impossible. We dragged our sorry asses to another rest stop and got a couple hours sleep. Sometimes I think that the mosquito should be our national bird.

I hope Canada doesn't choose the moskito as the National Bird! It would be terrible to find out how many of them are killed on daily basis in the summer! That seems like a very long trip. I have an idea of how big is Canada. I am curious if there is a Spot in canada that marks the Artic Circle crossing... I would like to cress it at least once! Who knows Pongo! Maybe when I get back to the States, I might even come visit you there and drive my new SUV... Of course I don't know yet which I would have, but it looks like it would be another RAV4! I never had a problem with rangers waking me up! I was parked at resting areas!
