Hey all,

Just passed my driving test and went out at the weekend and bought a 2002 Toyota Yaris GS (3 door).

Love this car except that every time i turn on the ignition the doors automatically lock, they open when the ignition is turned off.

Dont really like this feature but understand it is a security precaution.

Is there anyway to turn it off?

Thanks

I don't believe there is a way to acutally turn that feature off with a switch or reset...You may have to rigg it yourself. Congrats on the car and passing score.

Pretty much all vehicles have the ability to reprogram the PCM computer to disable this feature.

The procedure should be right in your owners manual. It would consist of a series of ignition on/off cycles combined with probably a window button.

I would be very surprised if your Toyota didn't have this ability.

Thanks for the replies.

It may have been added by the previous owner as I can't find it anywhere in the manual!

Maybe it will be one of those things I will get used to.

I suggest you phone Toyota Service and ask if they are aware of this feature able to be turned off.

Phone consultation is free and Toyota is usually happy to talk to you.

Those things are a pain. I'm driving a rental at the moment because mine is in the shop for a while, and
the doors automatically lock after about 30 seconds. Thing is, they don't unlock when you turn off the ignition. I hate it! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif)

See, I wasn't aware you could re-program that feature, because it is not in my manual (different car, though).

As suggested before cal Toyota service and they will tell you. You can also talk to the dealer, although they might want to charge you for the reprogram.
