Toyota Forums _ Toyota Previa Forum _ Corrosion On Battery Posts...overcharging?

Posted by: Stillin Saigon® Jan 24 2009, 07:46 PM

My sister's Previa had quite a bit of corrosion on and around the battery posts. Every time they were cleaned, the corrosion came back immediately. The battery was recently replaced and the red & green rings were put under the cable ends and the cable ends and battery posts were painted as well. Now the corrosion is still on the top of the battery "around" the area with the rings, posts and cable ends.

Has anyone else run into this problem? Could it be the result of over-charging (haven't checked it yet), or a high voltage drop from the positive and negative cables?

Any suggestions would be helpful to eliminate this "Crud" that magically appears. (I'm guessing at the over-charging).

Thanks in Advance,

Corrosion is like cancer, it likes to spread. So my guess is that the post are clear but the cable itself(I assume the power cable is the one with the more corrosion) is the cause. It might have started corroding on the inside where you can not clean it out. Best bet will be replacing the power cable, it might be not that easy but buying batteries is not cheap either. I have no other clues. My van is doing the same, i keep cleaning it everyweek :)) But i love it so it doesnt bother me, gives me an excuse to get under the hood.

Thanks so much. liebe011.gif That's the word I was getting from the "Shade Tree Community" out here.
I'll pass the info on to my sister.
