Toyota Forums _ Toyota Sienna Forum _ Replacing a tail light lense assembly

I need to replace a broken tail light lense assembly on my 2007 Sienna. Having looked at the new tail light lense assembly, it looks like a simple job--remove two screws, pull the assembly away from the rear quarter panel, detach the bulbs from the broken lense assembly, attach bulbs to the new assembly, press the assembly back into place on the quarter panel and tighten the two screws. Am I missing something? Are there any "gotchas?" My Toyota dealer wanted to charge me $68.00 for the labor to replace this assembly--an unbelievable amount in my opinion!!! Any reason I can not perform this task myself?

if you have a screwdriver sounds like ya got the drill down. The wire harness may be attached in the back with another screw

Larry here again. I followed through this AM. I needed a 10mm socket wrench instead of a screwdriver. Removed the two socket screws, pulled the tail light lense assembly from the quarter panel, unplugged the tail light wiring from the van wiring assembly, unplugged the two light bulbs, detached the bulb assembly from the lense assembly and the plastic molding, reinstalled those items on the new lense assembly and plugged its wiring connector into the van wiring assembly connector, remounted the lense assembly back on the quarter panel and reinserted/tightened the two 10mm screws. About a 10 minute job for a novice, and the Toyota dealer tried to charge me $68.00 to perform that job--highway robbery!!!!

Hi. I have the same issue. (2005 Sienna) The issue is getting the lens off. 2 screws, but the lens doesn't seem to want to come off. I see on other searches that I need to pry a bit and it will pop off. True? The flex in the lens seems a bit much, and I don't want to spend $75 for a new lens. Thanks in advance.

Fuzzy105,

It is a pretty simple process to remove the lense assembly--the lense assembly contains the socket for the bulbs, and is a replacable unit, i.e., if you break the lense, as I did, you have to replace the whole assembly. To remove the assembly, remove the two screws and apply adequate pressure to pull the lense assembly directly away form the rear qurterpanel. There are two pointed socket-type ends on the assembly that hold the assembly flush with the quarterpanel. After you pull the lense assembly away from the quarterpanel, you will be able to disconnect the wiring assembly to the bulbs in the lense assembly. Replace the burne dout bulb (if you have that problem), connect the wiring assembly to the bulb connection; press the lense assembly back into the quarterpannel, and replace the two screws. All pretty intuitive after you get over the fear of tugging hard enough to pull the lense assembly away from the quarterpanel. Good Luck!
