Toyota Forums _ Toyota Celica Forum _ 1979 Celica Gt

My 17 year old son loves the old GT look. He loved the supra, but the mechanic said stay away - too many problems. We will be looking at at 1979 Celica shortly. Believe it or not, its the classic "old lady" car and only hase 60,000 original miles! They want $3,600 for it, but the following site has an average retail of $1,475 as a low, and a high of $2,100:

http://www.nadaguides.com/default.aspx?LI=1-22-1-5013-0-0-0&l=1&w=22&p=1&f=5014&y=1979&m=1214&d=6185&c=14&vi=87619&da=-1

I could not find another site that shows kelly blue book values (kbb only goes back so far too).

My question is: Is the $3,600 price overpriced? Its also interesting to see the Original MSRP: $6,329!
Am I being a cheap, penny pinching moron, or, do I have a case to argue for a lower price?

This celica does appears to be in pristine condition. They have the original manual, original spare tire (never used) am/fm radio still works, its been garaged all its life, the original owner is now in a retirement home, the paint looks new, its never been in an accident, no dents, never painted, no rust, no broken glass,
no air conditioning (never came with it), there is a heater, runs well, no indication of leaks, etc.

I Would LOVE to get any and all feedback!

Lots of Celica love,

CelicaGTman

I used to have an 82 Celica GT. I remember looking at the 79 (the turtle i used to call it). As for pricing, you can check this site out, but I don't know if it has prices for cars this old:

Good luck! 60K on 79 is unheard of.

Did you ever find pricing info on the 1979 Celica GT? I have a similiar car, but with only 45,000 miles. It was a "special edition", has factory air, sun roof, cassette tape and some stainless steel appointments. Very curious to the value.
