I'm interested in W6JNU results installing a two
meter rig in his Prius. I'm not a Prius owner yet, but
leaning that way. I test drove one with my IC-8A in my
pocket scanning on 6m, 2m and 450 MHz. No interference
from the Prius noted. I would hope the Prius is not
bothered by a 50 watt radio. Keep us posted.
73, WA6OSB

If you keep the antenna outside the car, say a
magmount on the roof, wouldn't the steel body shield the
electronics? The insides would probably get a lot less
radiation that it does from a cellphone.

I haven't
tried it myself yet. I have noticed the AM broadcast
radio is exceptionally sensitive and
noise-free.

Do I detect a higher frequency of hams among the
Prius population? Not surprising.

73 de KC7IT

Somewhere a while back, I think I saw a
discussion of a successful ham radio installation in a
Prius.

Considering how much is going on in the high-power
electronics, it's impressive that people haven't had QRM from
the car.

So far I haven't seen reports of the
onboard electronics being hurt or confused, at least not
by VHF.

Send me your email address and I'll forward the
email message I received from Toyota about how to
install a ham radio in the Prius. It's supposed to be in
the repair manuals also but I haven't found it yet.
Just got my Prius yesterday! My email address is:
