Hi everyone,

I just moved from one province to another and my tercel needs the following to be plated. I've owned it from the start and would have parting since it never broke down on me.

Here is what I need to do :

*Needs to be done for plates* :
1) Brakes all around, bearings all around, both belts : maybe 450$ for parts
2)replace Windshield 230$ installed
3) replace left door handle 25$ for parts
4)repair one small hole in the side of the body. No hole at all in the floor. free.

*Coming soon*:
1) driver side axle boot is torn. Guess I would just replace the whole half-axle ; 120$ for parts
2) Was told the oil pan is leaking. That would make sense because I do have to add oil every once in a while, but I didnt need to add any oil after a 2000 km (1200 miles) trip. dont know the price.

All in, excluding the oil pan, I'm looking to spend about 900$ on that car. That isnt that bad, but I'm worried because I replace almost nothing in the past 4 years ( suspension '06 at 250 000 km, battery last year, starter this year), so a lot of repairs might be coming up.

I remember being told last year that my head gasket was going because of oil leaks , but that was by a mechanic I dont trust and the one that did my quick inspection only mentionned the leaking oil pan.

What do you think?

I'm kinda partial to Toyotas since I have been working on them for over 20 yrs.
I find that they usually dont nickle and dime you to death like north american cars.
All you usually have to worry about is the normal wear items like brakes, shocks, tires and so on.
I would honestly have to say that the 87-99 Tercels had the worst engines that Toyota ever made.
Saying that.... they are still twice as good as any north american engine out there.
If you have owned the car from new, then you know what it has been through and how it has been used.
The biggest problem I come across with Toyotas is someone gets one second hand that they think should be good, and someone has abused the heck out of it.
If the car fits your needs, then chances are your better off with it then someone else head ache.

Hope this helps

worst engine ever?? MY 93 has 177k on it and it purs like new and get 52MPG you must not know to well on how to work with your engine instead of against it. i know that the 93 tercel 2door modle when driven nice with minor maint will have no problem reaching 300-400k miles.. and thats without rebuilding the engine.
