Key Wont Turn In Barrel, toyota power van wont start Options

hi,i have a 2001 toyota power van and the key wont turn in the barrel if i fiddle with it for a while then it used to sometimes turn start no probs but recently its just been getting worse and now wont turn at all,
is it possible my key could be worn out even though it unlocks the doors ok or am i looking at a new barrel and key also are the barrels easy to fit.

The tumblers in your barrel have collapsed. This is a common problem with Toyota ignition barrels. I have had to have
3 of them repaired at my local locksmith in the last 3 years (on different vehicles).

You need to have the key in the barrel and be able to turn it to "ACC" before you can remove the barrel. If you take the plastic off around
the ignition barrel and look on the side of the barrel housing you will see a small hole about 5mm in diameter.

With the key in the barrel and turned to ACC, use a screwdriver or other steel tool to push IN on the metal part inside this hole, then pull
the barrel and key straight out towards you.

Take the barrel to a locksmith and they will fix it in about half an hour. It used to cost me about $40 (NZ).
