Hello, new hear, Inherited an 03 Corolla from my grandpa awhile ago.(Has 62k on it)
I noticed the other day at the drive through, with the car in drive, and my foot on the brake, the car at a stop. There's a squeaking noise coming from under the hood. Went away when I put the car in neutral or park. It's really faint in park. Goes away for like 10 seconds when i turn the A/C on(Probably because of the higher RPMS)
I changed the tranny fluid about a week ago, with Valvoline ATF(Meets toyota type 4 standards), but I noticed the noise before that. I looked it up and found this on a transmission website.
" Torque converter noises are easy to isolate. Since the entire converter (pump, turbine and stator) turns while the transmission is in park and neutral, a converter noise will go away in those ranges. When the transmission is in gear and the drive wheels are stationary, the turbine in the torque converter doesn't spin, because the turbine shaft is stationary. This is when the bearing between the turbine and main housing of the converter is working. If the noise is there only in gear with the drive wheels stationary and goes away in neutral, suspect the torque converter. There is an exception with the AOD transmission. The direct drum of an AOD is always turning while the engine is running. For this reason, a torque converter noise can be easily confused with the noise made by one of the direct drum bearings. Tip: A torque converter noise will get quieter as the drive wheels begin rolling slowly from a stop."
i REALLY hope its not the torque converter, because that would be a PAIN to replace, and I need the car for the summer(Or I could buy a BMW E30). Is there any other Solution? The Belt was replaced 20k Miles ago?
I thought it might be the power steering pump, water pump, or timing chain.
Another note, about 6 months ago the car overheated, come to find out it had a small coolant leak(And all the Pink coolant came out), so I put dex-cool in the cooling system, and some bar's stop leak. The leak stopped but recently alittle more coolant has leaked out, So I put prestone Coolant in, hearing its better for the car then Dex-cool. This was about when the Squeak started, so im wondering if Maybe the water-pump doesn't like the Prestone Coolant?....
Thanks alot.
