Automatic Door Siena Van 2004, 2004siena door issues Options

Hi my name is Lisa and I am joining this site as I have a serious problem w/my 2004 siena van automatic door-- the cable snapped --and after researching this on line I see I am not alone. I have 2 kids, the van doors are VERY difficult to operate manually as is the back trunk door--and for me especially difficult because I have a painful neck problem that basically means I now cannot open/close the side doors or the trunk--what is the use in having a van? Anyway Toyota Customer Service keeps a data base of complaints and if there are enough there could be a recall. This is important as I have been quoted the part alone to be $1600.00 by the dealership. The Cust Ser number is 1 800 331 4331. They are attentive but at this point they do not have this problem listed as common enough to warrant a recall--yet I have read NUMEROUS postings on line by people with the same problem!! I guess I will have the dealer actually put the estimate in writing and then see where that gets me...anyone have suggestion? Thank you!!
