Dear All

I'm trying to dismantle the dashboard on my 1990 Hiace in order to get to the parking brake, which needs to be replaced. I am stuck at the panel that that has the ashtray in it. I have removed screws on the left, below and on the right (two screws to the left of the glove compartment), but the panel is still stuck, especially on the right hand side. Does anyone know how to get it off?

I attach a picture...

let us know how you get on...

I tried to remove that on my '90 hiace when installing an alarm LED (trying for just next to the radio...) but gave up and installed elsewhere, I'm not as agile as I used to be and it was a real pain trying to get in there to firstly look, then remove things..... strange how your park brake is that kind where as in Australia its between the front seats.... cheers!

thanks for the reply. At least I know I am not alone with this problem. I assume that people often need to remove that particular panel section for various purposes, so an answer might be useful to others as well. I hope that someone here can help...
