Ok so for the longest time I thought I had a 1.6 4A-FE like my old corolla. Its got a three speed tranny like mentioned on consumer reports for a 1.6. Cuz it came with either a 5 speed or 3 speed auto. But this is where it gets weird. I wiped off a sticker near my distributor cap and rotor and the sticker said 7A-FE. But the 1.8 7A-FE had a 4 speed auto. I dunno if its really a 7A-FE tho. The pictures on google dont help either. Is there a way I can tell?

The simplest way is to type your VIN number into google and hope there's a vehicle history report. If there is then look to see if your car has had it's engine swapped and hope the type of engines listed. Now if you need further confirmation you should be able to jack the car up and there should be some sort of plate on the underside of the engine, not real sure cause I don't have access to my repair guide and it's dark out.

Hope that helped.
