Oil Gelling In 2002 Camrys And Solaras Options

i am trying to get information on the oil gelling problem causing engine failure as reported on edmonds.com---i didn't see this until after i bought the car. toyota supposedly extended an eight-year, unlimited mileage repair offer for this problem, but that time is almost up for my car---i would like to eliminate this risk if possible---i wondered if synthetic oil might be a possibility-- no one seems to know why the oil gels. this problem was reported for 02 camrys and solaras.
