1999 Sienna Wiper Fluid Pressure Low? Options

Hi There, New to the forum with a new problem. Wife noticed that the wpier fluid doesn't reach to the desired location on the windshield anymore. Being in California it doesn't get used much but with the approaching winter rains I decided to tackle this one. I pulled the cowling off and removed the wipers and nozzles. Connected a can of pressurized air (for cleaning computer chassis) and blew it thru the nozzles. Then I ran the wiper switch and triggered the washer fluid with out the nozzles attached and there appeared to be plenty of easy flowing wiper fluid. Thinking all was now good I reassmbled everything and retested the fluid flow only to discover that fluid barely reaches the windshield from the nozzles. So, how do I determine which is at fault without replacing all the parts? It could be the nozzles with restricted openings (age/corrosion) or the pump's fading/failing. Suggestions?

I suggest you try to operate the washer without the nozzle(s) attached. If you have good pressure, then obviously the nozzles are clogged. I did that a few weeks on my other car. After I cleaned the nozzles with a pin they started spraying over the car. I actually had to actually clamp the tubes (make them smaller) to get the pressure to keep from spraying on my trunk (My nozzles are not adjustable). If you get good pressure then I think you are in need of a new pump. Good luck.

Gasha's suggestions are good ones. I'm no longer having trouble with clogs for the past umpteen years because I only used distilled water, mixed ROUGHLY 50/50 with a good quality W/S washer solution. I always buy only the solution that has NO solid debris in the bottom of the gallon jug. If you see a bunch of crud at the bottom, avoid that brand like the plague. When I used to buy "any ole" washer fluid, the nozzles on my vehicles would clog frequently.
