I keep hearing a strange clicking noise from the dashboard. I have no idea what is causing this clicking noise. What could be the problem?

Hi AngelicWriter,
I couldn't help noticing your problem with the annoying clicking sound from your dash or what seems to be coming from in front of you while driving (remember sounds transmit) your Sequoia, I think I might have a solution for you if you have not had it cured yet. It sounds like the same thing mine was doing. After almost 2 years and 26,000 miles and somewhere in the neighborhood of about 6 trips to the dealerships on this issue and having no success at all I finally took matters into my own hands and found out what the problem with Sequoias' which includes '05, '06, and '07 models and maybe more.

I have a few questions for you.
1) Does the sound seem to be more prominent when you drive on roads that have a little uneven pavement, or when making slight turns such as driving on a road with s-turns and or switch-backs?
2) Does it seem to be a little (very little) louder when it's warmer out side, if you can tell?
3) Does the sound seem more like a slight electrical relay "ticking" sound?
If so. Get back to me.

Mr. Fix

I was having this issue with my 2001 Sequoia about 40,000 miles ago. It was driving me crazy and after extensive research, I found that the clips at the front of the dash (right under the bottom of the windshield) were weakening and not holding the dash tightly in place. Over every little bump in the road, it would click, click, click. My solution, based on what I learned from others, was to stuff 3/4 inch backer rod (foam tubing used in cement cracks) down under the front lip of the dash with a plastic putty knife, so as not to scratch anything. Stuffed it down far enough so that it doesn't show. Worked like a charm! I had almost forgotten about that little episode until I saw your post! Hope that helps you or someone else.

Cheers!

I too can hear a clicking noise... but this only clicks once or twice shortly after putting the vehicle into drive. (2002 Sequoia Limited, 4WD). Sounds like it is coming from the dash, too.

It's probably the speedometer cable, get that checked out.

I have the same problem with my 2003 Sequoia. It seems when I'm braking (to a stop) there is a click, like a electrical relay, that occurs in the dashboard. I also noticed it has clicked on accelerations too. This has been occurring since I purchased the vehicle about 800 miles ago.

I don't know if this is at all related but for the first time yesterday my wife started the vehicle and the low fuel light came on and the fuel gauge showed empty. I had just filled up the Sequoia. She did not know the tank was full and headed to the gas station. As she was heading to the gas station the fuel light went off and the fuel tank rose to 1/4 tank full. She did not get gas.

Later that day I got in and drove to work and when I got in the tank showed 1/3 full. As I drove it, it slowly went up to almost full. I did check the digital DTE on the overhead readout and it showed 300 miles left on the tank, so that worked the whole time.

Is it possible the 2 things Clicking and fuel gauge could be related?
Thanks for whatever information you may provide.

Dave
