Does anyone know if I can get rid of my smog pump? ('89 Toyota Pickup 22r) I think that it is about to go out because it is starting to rattle a little bit. I have heard before of people capping off vacuum lines and I thought that it might be possible to just get rid of the smog pump instead of replacing it. I don't have state inspections.

Are you sure that it is your air pump that making that sound? I thought that your year and model had a pulse air injection system and it doesn't have an actual pump it draws air from the air cleaner. If not yes you can cap it off where the two hoses go. Back in the days people would remove it completely. I have never done it so I really dont know if it would have any sideeffects like drivability problems or smell from running to rich, but I dont think it would. The smog pump is only to reduce emission tailpipe HC and CO it pumps air before the cat.
