HiYa,
I just bought a 92 Japanese Import HiAce 3.0 camper van. The van is just 2" over the limit of the maximum height allowed by the ferry for a regular vehicle. I live on an island and use the ferry often, because of the over-height, I will be paying a premium every time I travel on the ferry. Is there a way to lower the vehicle on the fly? Like installing air shocks? Or other ingenious way other than letting air out of the tires?

Is your van lowered already?
Most quick systems (airbags etc.) will require a fair bit of work to pull off.
Perhaps an all round 2 inch drop might fix your problems?
Depending on the type of suspension on your model, might be as simple as winding the front torsion bars down and getting the rear leafs reset (or installing different lowering blocks)

No. I don't think my van is lower. It is fairy high actually. Higher than a regular minivan.
I live on an island, and it cost extra $$$ because of the height (2 inches over) when I take the ferry. I am thinking of installing air charged shocks so I can lower the height when I get on the ferry. If I could do that, it will save me $100.00 each round trip.

Hello RHD,
I don't know if this will help, but I just got my HiAce lifted 1.5 inches in order not to drag my belly in the snow. All they needed to do was add some tension to the front Torsion Bar. I would think that you should be able to do the opposite to lower. Here is a site I found for you that might explain things better.

Good luck,

Rob,
What did you do, if anything, to raise the rear to match the new front height?
