I get a kinda burping effect during idle. Its not constant. It happens after about 2 minutes of idling sitting at a red light i get a quick hesitation like a missed spark and back to regular idle. This happens only during low RPM cruising you get a quick bop or jerking and back to normal again. Does not happen during hard acceleration. Just the odd miss once in awhile..I can give it gas and she revs no problem, lots of power and no smoke... she is running perfect except for this little burp or coug..any help out there. thanks in advance

seems when I put in premium gas, all this started...gone back to regular... somehow it has helped. The burping only happens 2 -3 times during a drive and not 10 times now.

Had this problem in a major way, to the point where we had to be in neutral when idling (at stop lights, etc.) to keep the engine from dying.

Took it to the dealership (because it was the engine) and after spending $1300, it improved, but not at all fixed. It does seem to be related to the pistons/plugs. I have a '95 Tercel DX and am now thinking of having the cylinders re-bored to add a bit of power and replace the whole piston assembly (proper term?). I figure after 12 years of great operation, it's the least I can do to give the engine more life. I am figuring that it will solve that burp issue too, but I still need to talk to a mechanic about this.

I only have 90,000 miles on mine. She doesn't burn or eat oil. No over heating or use of any fluids. She idles quite smooth only for the odd burp. My CHECK ENGINE light is not on so that means no code or serious injection issues. I will just keep an eye on her.... looking into buying a new honda fit.

Mine has 200K+ on it. My wife has an hour commute to work. But it had been fine till now. I'm getting some answers soon, I hope, and will remedy the issue.

I am happy wih the car and while I cannot aford a new car to replace it, I can afford to improve the one I have.

The Fit seems cool. Great MPGs I believe.

For those who care.... I will keep posting updates on my problem. After my third new tank of gas and a bottle of gas line antifreeze, I have come to a conclusion it may be bad gas or moisture go into the gas. In the case of moisture I heard it is not easy to rid the tank of it. One mechanic told me it will take several treatments and tanks to dis-lodge the little bubbles that cling to parts of the fuel line and tank.... so, my problem is getting better with each new tank full.
