93 2wd Pickup Transmission Removal Options

Hi everyone. I'm new here and am very impressed with this forum. I've read thru many posts and have learned a lot and am looking forward to learning more.
My question to the forum is does anyone have any tips for pulling the trans on a 93 pickup? I have to replace the clutch and have never done one. Any tips and or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You will need a floor jack with a transmission adapter or some other way to support the transmission and roll it back about a foot.
Next to the normal socket with a few pivot adapters and long extensions to get at the top transmission bolts. The other thing you need is a clutch alignment tool. It's cheap and will save you hours of pain.

Replace both the pilot and clutch release bearing. Nothing quite tops having the pain of pulling the tranny in 10k because the bearing failed. I did not find a place that would rent a bearing puller for the small pilot bearing. I made my own using a 5/8 bolt with the head cut off and bent into a "J" hook shape. Slide the hook behind the bearing, and place the threaded end though a some metal with a hole in it. Then thread nut on and tighten. It will pull the bearing right out. Then tap the new one in with the right size socket and a hammer.

Also inspect the flywheel. Look for heavy burning and any micro cracks. If in doubt, take it off and have it resurfaced. I had a local shop do it for $20 bucks.

I have a 4x4 so I had more things to take off, but it took me 5 hours to take mine out, and 5 hours to put it back. Not working fast, just having fun and figuring it out as I went.

And one more thing. Leave the transmission in gear. It's real handy to turn it a little bit to line up the input shaft splines with the clutch splines. I wasted a good hour on this last time before I figured out what was going on.
