I currently own a civic but am planning on trading in for a 94-99 celica.

with the money left over from selling the civic and some of what i got in my bank i wanted to buy a performance engine for the celica. what engine swap would be best for the 94-99 celica?

that should have a 2zzfe in it so you are good on a motor. You can put out about 350 ponies on that engine ya know..... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif)

Hi, I am in the same position. My 1994 celica 5sfe engine 2.2L (130 hp) blew and I would like to replace with a more powerful engine. In the Japanese domestic market (JDM), there was a 3s-gte, with 255 bhp. The 2zzge (180 hp) was the next generation celica. Please, let me know what you did.

To place a 3s-gts engine in ur celica You're going to need to get a hold of a Celica 4wd Turbo sensor pack (If it didn't come with the motor). Turbo Pressure sensor, AFM, fuel pump resistor packs, ick, more sensors than I can possibly name. This is where things get sticky, you're going to need to source a LOT of spare parts.
Including wiring, connectors, sensors, ect. ect. ect.. You will also want to replace the water pump and timing belt while the engine is out of the car.
The timing belt you could replace it with a 944 porsche timing belt.
Also mabey a new clutch kit for it to handle the new power in the engine, 3SGTE plate with a 5SFE disc.

Its gonna cost you, Im thinking about doing it for my 99 Celica GT myself sometime after i get new seats and a ViS Invader body kit on it, and mabey a new paint job.
